ENGLISH CLASSES

Information

WHAT IS ESOL?

People come to the Baltimore and Carroll County area from around the world for education and jobs. For these internationals, learning English helps with daily life and opens doors of opportunity.  ESOL (an acronym for the term “English for Speakers of Other Languages”) is an English teaching ministry.

Covenant of Grace has been offering free ESOL classes since 2009. Students from more than 55 countries have participated in Covenant’s ESOL program. Our ESOL English classes are a service to our community. There are no grades or credits. Our classes focus on reading, writing, speaking, listening, vocabulary, grammar, and conversation. Our goal is to help our students in their use of English in daily life.

WHO CAN ATTEND ESOL?

Any adult who would like to learn English is welcome! Children between 12 and 17 can attend (with approval of the ESOL Director) if their parents also attend. Our students come from many countries, language groups, and religious backgrounds.

WHEN IS ESOL?

ESOL classes are offered Wednesday nights starting at 7:00-9:00 pm during the two sessions each year.

Session I (Fall) runs from September to December.

Session 2 (Spring) runs from February through May.

WHO TEACHES ESOL?

Our ESOL teachers come from many professional backgrounds, and receive training in teaching ESOL.  All staff are unpaid volunteers.  Classes are taught in English.
